Carauntoohil (1038m) or Mangerton (839m)
Walk on Carauntoohil
For those doing Carrauntoohil we will leave accommodation at 09:30am and drive across to Cronin’s Yard for our walk.
We will be taking the most popular route up Carrauntoohil for those who have not walked this peak before. Although this is a popular route it is still a hard walk and not to be taken lightly and would still be seen a great challenge for most people. We follow a track through what is called the Hag’s Glen and onto the Devil’s ladder bring us close to the summit, we will be returning the same way.
Grade: Strenuous, Length 13.4 km, Duration: 6+ hrs, Ascent: Approx 920m, Terrain:Stoney track and open mountain
Walk on Mangerton:
For those doing the Mangerton walk we will travel out back towards Torc Waterfall for the start of this walk.
This walk starts at the end of a forest track and out onto some open mountain track. The land here can be quite wet so gaiters are advised. Although seen as the easier of the walks today it may still be a challenge to some. It is a more gradual climb and should be managble for most people. The walk has spectacular views of the Devil’s Punchbowl, MacGillycuddy’s Reeks, Horses Glen, Killarney National Park and on a good day south west to Kenmare Bay.
We will be returning in the same direction.
Grade: Strenuous Length 10km, Duration: 4 hrs, Ascent: 750m, Terrain: track, and mountain track.
After returning to Killarney we can relax and freshen up at our accommodation before dinner.
There are many great bars to enjoy some live music in the town.
Day 3) Visit Muckross and Gardens before our return to Dublin
After breakfast this morning we can take some time to visit Muckross House and Gardens and walk near the lakes of Killarney.
We plan on being back in Dublin for approx 4pm.
N.B. ALL WALKS ARE WEATHER DEPENDENT AND GUIDES HAVE FINAL SAY. If a walk is cancelled another more suitable one will be chosen on the day.
