The Barrow Way on St Patrick’s Day 2020
About the Walk: This is a walk along part of the Barrow Way, a trail that follows the river Barrow through counties Carlow and Kilkenny. We will be doing part of the last section of this walk between Bagnelstown and Borris. This a very FLAT walk as it was once used for barges bringing goods between towns before we all had cars. It’s a lovely walk away from the roads and the noise of cities all you hear are the birds.
There is even a choice to take this walk at an easier pace and leave the trail at Goresbridge after just 10Km. You can also decide to continue onto the town of Borris which will give you a total of approx. 17Km. There is just a small climb at the end towards Borris as you leave the river bank.
We have buses organised for this so if you do you decide to leave at Goresbridge you are brought to Borris, where we will all meet up after our walk.
Borris is a beautiful estate village which sits next to Borris House and Estate, the ancestral home of the McMorrough Kavanaghs.
It will be busy here on St Patrick’s day after their local parade but we are hoping to get into O’Shea’s pub of the magic door for a well-earned refreshment after our walk. Other hostelries include the glamorous Step House Hotel and Joyce’s – we won’t go thirsty!
We aim to leave Borris by 5 pm to get you home at a respectable hour.
