Introduction Hill Walking Course:
Walking can be a great way to get fit, explore the hills and meet new people but where can you start. Well that is what this course is all about.
About the Hill Walking Course:
These courses include two theory sessions to cover subjects such as clothing for walking, boots, jackets, trousers etc. We will also cover some map reading and compass work with plenty of practical applications and tips. Walking safety and weather conditions will also be covered. Each indoors course will be approx 2hours in length.
About the Walks:
The four fully guided walks will take place in the Dublin, Wicklow hills to apply what you have learned in the course and apply to the outdoors. We will be picking locations which are safe and scenic. They will also be suitable to those who are just starting out hill walking, so keeping the walks at an easy pace in suitable terrain.
The course is designed to teach beginners how to use a map and compass properly whilst out in the hills.
We will start you off with a relatively easy walk while gradually increasing the length and altitude of the walks each week. The walks are all lead by qualified guides and the group will only travel as fast as the slowest person.
The two theory sessions will be on Wednesday 3rd & 10th October.
The walks will be on Sat Oct 3rd, 10th, 17th and 24th.
Don’t worry if you can’t make all the dates, I’m sure we will cover plenty for you anyway.
- Details of the walks and meeting locations etc will be emailed to you when you sign up.
- If any of the Walks need to get cancelled due to weather conditions we will postpone it for another day.
- Car Pooling and Transport will be organised for each walk
