Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Glengarriff and settle into your accommodation for the evening. If you arrive early then do take the time to explore this wonderful small sea port village. You could also if you have time visit Garnish Island just of the coast with it's famous micro tropical climate. Ferrys leave from Glengarriff.

Sheep on the Beara WayDay 2: Glengarriff to Adrigole: Distance 13km, ascent 650m, approx walking time 5 hours
After leaving Glengarriff the trail passes through the gap between Gowlbeg Mountain and Sugarloaf Mountain before winding down to Adrigole along an old coach road, with fantastic views of Bantry Bay.

Day 3: Adrigole to Castletownbere: Distance 19km, 650m ascent, approx walking time 5-6 hours
Following the lower slopes of Hungry Hill and zigzagging across the slopes of Maulin, the trail leads you down to exceptionally pretty fishing town of Castletownbere. Where you will be staying for the evening. Although a small fishing port town, it is very lively with great music in many of it's local bars.

Day 4: Castletownbere to Allihies: Distance 14km, ascent 300m, approx walking time 4 – 5 hours Forestry tracks leads you out of Castletownbere to pass through the Slieve Miskish Mountains, across open mountain tracks, leading you to the very colourful village of Allihies.

Day 5: Allihies to Dursey sound: Distance 13km, ascent 290m, approx walking time 4 – 5 hours
While this is a short days walking, you will be rewarded with the most spectacular cliff walks to reach the end of the Beara peninsula.

Day 6: Depart Dursey Sound. While you are in Dursey Sound, perhaps you would like to take a ride on Ireland's only cable car, which was once used for bringing livestock to Dursey Island to graze but used today to get locals across.
