Dates 2018: June 10th
Meet: Glenmalure Lodge 10:30am
Lugnaquilla is the highest mountain in County Wicklow and Leinster; it is also a Munro (i.e. hill above 3000ft). There are many possible ways to approach the summit of this Mountain from all directions. The way through Glenmalure and up Fraughan Rock is one of my favourites although it is also quite challenging.
No Boots, No Walk
Starting from Baravore car park at the top of Glenmalure we follow the Avonbeg River deeper into the valley and take a right turn that brings us into Fraughan Glen.
This is an absolutely beautiful valley with steep sides all around us. Following a trail that suddenly ends and you start to ascent quickly from here.
The great thing about this ascent is it gets you to the summit sooner and from the summit on a clear day you are rewarded for your efforts with panoramic views through out Wicklow and more.
We can decide on the day dependent on the weather and fitness of the group how we would like to come back down.
How to get there:
Take the N11 from Dublin towards Wicklow. Turn of at Kilmacanogue taking the Road for Roundwood- Glendalough. At Laragh turn right taking the road for Rathdrum about 1km down this road there is a minor road to your left that will bring into Glenmalure.
What to Bring:
Suitable walking boots (essential), Rain gear, flask of hot drink, WATER, packed lunch, good walking socks,.
